Question by ransomedbyfire: Has any legitimate scientific connection been found between names and personality?
Aside from numerology and other superstitions, have any real scientific studies found links between first names and personalities?
Answer by RamblinWreck
That all depends on your definition of scientific connection. Especially with psychology studies, many connections can only proved to be correlative and not causal.
I have read findings that girls with popular first names tend to do better in school than those with less popular names. This would definitely be an example of correlative findings. I read this a while ago, but I imagine the findings may not be significant, and it could be influenced by any number of things (are girls with less “popular” names simply those of different nationalities, whose first language may not be English?).
Other than that, I think certain names may just have social stigmas based on popular culture, but there is no real connect.
